Last Thursday, it was International Women Day, that same day opened the temporary exhibition WO/ in Vane Gallery in city centre of Newcastle. It is curated by artists Melanie Kyles and Caitlin Heaney, and because they're the best to talk about the actual exhibition here's what it is about: "The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is Press for Progress, which focuses on gender parity and acknowledges movements working towards global gender equality. ‘WO/’ aims to allow feminine-identifying artists to have a platform to share their stories of societal and gender expectations, sexual and gender identity, heritage, reclaiming the feminine voice, and economic inequality, with a diverse mix of twenty UK-based and international artists." So you can go and see that great exhibition until the 24th March 2018 Opening times: Wednesday – Saturday 12 noon – 5pm And for those who don't know where Vane Gallery is: First Floor of Commercial Union House, 39 Pilgrim Street, NE1 6QE I think it's really great to have such a variety of talented women artist, when it's a known fact that women are under represented in museum, galleries etc... all over the world, even though it's starting to change I agree (it's about time!), those type of initiative are great, so go encourage them and check it out! Art in general is a tough field, for any gender, but I think it's "funny" that we have less women in the "real world", when they are a majority in art school... So I'm not spoiling too much of the exhibition, just enough so you want to go and check all these amazing artists! The FB page for the event is here!
